I am a crafty person anyway, I love to Crochet, Cross Stitch, and I also have a Circut machine. In the summer of 2020 I was looking for something new to do and I came across an Australian lady doing resin coasters on Youtube. I was immediately mesmerised by the colours and the way the resin poured. So I began to research resin products in the UK.
I found lots of kits but I was a bit weary of using them as the lady on YouTube said that you needed a good quality resin. Then I found Craft Resin, I read the reviews and then decided to purchase a 1L box and some coaster moulds and some mica powders.
At first I was a little scared to use the resin, as I was worried about not doing it right and wasting money. So I chose simple colours that I thought went together which was Purple & Gold glitter. Once I did that first pour and watched how the colours and the clear resin interacted with each other I was hooked. I actually watched the coasters for the first 30 mins, mesmerised by the reaction. And that was the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
I have done a few things with resin from then to now and my favourite thing to create changes every time I get a new mould! However I do love the bears that have the forest scene that I have done and my new favourite thing is glass tumblers, they are fast becoming my fave thing to create.
I had sold a couple of my coaster sets in 2020 but because I got pregnant with my ‘J’ I stopped doing resin in 2021, however at the end of 2022 I was really missing doing resin and decided to start it back up and made the decision to start a resin business, as no one near me was making the things I was and i felt that people would like the things I make. So I guess the decision to start the business was a thought out plan but at the same time it felt like a natural progression in my resin journey so that's when I started taking it seriously.
The biggest obstacle I think is trying to stand out. The problem can be that you say to people that you are making this thing and then they google it and start to find others doing it or find similar products and it can be hard to get people to stay looking at your things… I am still overcoming this but i think the key thing is to show your passion for your products and believe in what YOU are doing over what anyone else is doing.
I am not currently a Brand Ambassador for Craft Resin, however this is something I am very much interested in doing in the near future as I progress in this industry. I do have a referral link/code so I can share the resin I use with people who want to try it, and this will help to create a little bit extra money on the side, that I'll probably reinvest into resin supplies. But I'd love to do more with the brand, I joined one of their other Brand Ambassadors on a TikTok Live the other week and that was scary, but so much fun!
Crafting with resin has given me the opportunity to be creative in a completely different way than I have been able to before. Experimenting with colour combinations is so fun and allows my creativity to be limitless and shopping for new moulds has become my favourite way to spend any spare time I have. The best thing about crafting with resin is that you can pour the same colours into multiple of the same mould and none of them will turn out the same!
I am excited to see my business grow in 2023 and to be able to provide people with gift options that are truly unique, and to really just create more and more things.
My biggest piece of advice for new resin artist is, do not let your mind limit you! Resin is a limitless creativity outlet and just practice all you can.
